General Electric was one of the anchor tenants of the Russ Building at 235 Montgomery Street from the moment the building opened in 1927. At the time, the Russ Building was the tallest and most prestigious office tower in San Francisco, often referred to as the “Skyscraper of the West.” GE began phasing out its presence in the late 1960s, officially vacating the building by 1970.
